Maureen O'Hara Biography

Maureen O'Hara, an American actor and singer of Irish descent was a well-known character. The green-eyed beauty sporting flaming red locks was well-known for her passionate and fiery roles in several American films. Her stunning appearance and natural beauty were well-received. She was known in Hollywood as the "Queen of Technicolor". Her characters onscreen reflected her strong, brave spirit that fought to survive and gain recognition in a male-dominated society. She often referred to herself as the "tough Irish lass" who did not compromise her honor and status to land the roles she deserved through merit. Throughout her career in the field of film she stood up against injustice and improper treatment against female actors. For this, she gained a lot of followers. The autobiography of her, 'Tis herself", which was released in 2004, provided an honest and unfiltered description of her life experiences including her struggle to climb the ladder to achieve success. She was an adventurous woman who wasn't afraid of carrying out her own stunts. She appeared as an actress in more than 60 films in the past and enjoyed a lot of international recognition. She was remarried in 1968 to Charles F. Blair Jr. who was a former pilot brigadier and chief of the air force who were pioneers of transatlantic aviation. O'Hara went on to retire a few years after their marriage. Blair was tragically killed in an air crash in 1978, ending O'Hara’s happiness. In the same year, she was diagnosed with being a victim of uterine cancer, and was required to undergo urgent surgery. She was able to recover eventually. In the following years her health declined and she suffered from six heart attacks, short-term memory loss and diabetes mellitus type 2. O'Hara, who was 95, peacefully passed away in Boise on the 24th October of 2015.
