ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. Morgan and her siblings Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played a variety of activities as a youngster, but only started to play soccer when she was 14. Following high school, Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team. They won the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and came in third place in their under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to work at Diamond Bar High School, where she honed her soccer abilities. She was chosen as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also played for state and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her first season. She was instrumental in bringing the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed as the top player on the list. Morgan graduated in 2010 with the third-highest amount of goals and points in Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at the collegiate as well as national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an injury to her ACL in her first season with Berkeley. This prevented her from participating in U.S. women's soccer under 20 until April 2008. Morgan scored her first international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals and earned her team a gold-medal. One of those goals was a win against Italy that earned the U.S. team the final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team and was instrumental in helping in the victory over France. Morgan was the team's youngest player, and helped the team win against Japan.
