Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and was a part of her early years living in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in Chicago, when she was in junior high. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the youngest of three siblings, sisters Betsy and Lori and Joe, the brother. Joe. Amy has backpacked all over Europe with her entire family and independently. Both of them were teachers and were able to travel and camp together every summer due to this. They've camped in every US state except Alaska. Amy went to Rwanda in 1994 after the war to help with aid efforts to help the victims. Early on, Amy showed artistic talent performing in school productions, and taking part in writing contests. In high school she was a promising athlete who finished in the very first 3200 meter relay in the Illinois girls track. After an injury, she returned to college and played a variety of roles on the stage, beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth July” and then directed Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon”. Amy graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) Cum laude and graduated with an A.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympic. She also took acting classes at The Actor's Center. A contract role on the now defunct soap drama Another World (1964) moved her to NYC soon after graduation. She was nominated in the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series" category for Daytime Emmy Award. Her most memorable roles were of strong women like Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson resides in New York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist in Les Savy Fav, where she also operates in the business of independent music as part-owner of the independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy is continuing to write as well as seek out diverse and unique roles in the film industry.
