Patricia Velásquez
Creativity goes beyond images, canvas,
film and other media. It also spurs charitable or philanthropy as well as
activism. Patricia Velasquez is an award-winning actress and a history-making
supermodel. She is also a staunch and generous philanthropist. Author activist,
author, and loving mother. She believes in her intuition and is a pioneer in
her own direction. "I see my work as an endless staircase," she said.
"I took every single step. It was truly amazing to do so, since there has
been longevity. Simply lay my head on the floor and moved one step at the time.
Then, it was done. The metaphor is an evocation of the first experience of
forming. The woman was born in Venezuela and was raised in France or Mexico.
After just a few years she decided to relocate to Venezuela. In South America,
her parents worked in education , and then relocated the family into a crowded
apartment with no water and inoperable elevators. To ensure that water was
available for the apartment, Patricia often carried heavy buckets on fifteen
flights of stairs. Between her studies in engineering and dance training,
Patricia did her best to assist the family by any means she could. Scouted to
model in Milan, the multi talented artist's climb to the top of the fashion
world hinged on a promise she made to those she loved. She recalls being
requested to travel to Italy to model for the fashion industry. "If I
could send thirty dollars per month back to Venezuela that would be worth it
because that will pay for every single drop of water in the structure."
Patricia's success was an important turning point in fashion as she was the
first to draw the attention of fashion's industry to South America. In the wake
of becoming "the first Karl Lagerfeld model ever photographed", she
went on to be featured in editorial spreads as well as advertisements for the
front of Chanel as well as Dolce & Gabbana. Her appearances in Oprah's
Supermodel of the World contest and Ford Models’ "Supermodel of the World”
contest resonated across the globe. She was also featured on the pages of Marie
Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
